Mirko Tobias Schäfer / Assistant Professor
University of Utrecht Department for Media and Culture Studies
This lecture will present designers, artists, media scholars and New Media & Digital Culture students alike with an excellent opportunity to get to grips with state of the art research into today's most pressing new media issues: what role does software have in constituting the societies that we live in? How can we develop techniques and technologies that enable us to analyse visual and media cultures and artifacts such as video games, mass media, visual art, media design, cinema, animation, photography, et cetera?
The lecture is organised by Skip Intro, the underground university collective that grabs opportunities to engage with science whenever they arise. The event will take place at Utrecht's own Media Lab at SETUP, located on Neude 4. Head over to http://www.manovich.net/ and http://lab.softwarestudies.com/ to read up on Manovich's latest work; you may leave your orange hat on after the World Cup match and are then cordially invited to delve into the wonderful world of Cultural Analytics!
