Thanks to the persistent efforts of Tijmen Schep and his indefatigable peers SetUp became possible and provides a platform for the rather neglected new media scene in Utrecht. For three month everybody involved in software development, game design, new media studies and media art can propose events and activities that will take place at SetUp. The program so far consists of a number of exciting proposals. As meeting place and provisional lab, SetUp brings together interested audiences with designers, scholars and activists.
A jour fixe is the Manic Monday, which initiator Patrick Beeker describes as a creative walk-in-lab where designers spontaneously come up with solutions and design proposals. Anyone interested in collaborating with
a randomly encountered team can walk in on Mondays and either offer their skills or question those present. Other events include a one-day workshop on locative media storytelling, a Drupal workshop, or a series of events with Performance Engine, an experimental interaction of performers with technology.
SetUp will also host other events revolving around new media such as the Utrecht Nieuwe Media Avond (UNMA) dedicated to augmented reality, the next Skip Intro session.

SetUp is an initiative that aims at establishing a permanent medialab in Utrecht. For the next three month the abandoned ABN Amro building at the Neude serves as playground, work space and meeting place for the various stakeholders and participants in new media development in Utrecht.
